It’s exciting how luxury brands are now slowly entering the crypto space. Italian luxury fashion brand, Gucci, is making its way into Web 3 with the upcoming drop of 10 non-fungible tokens (NFT) called SUPERGUCCI, starting February 1.
The Gucci team is partnering with leading creator of animated celebrities, limited-edition vinyl toys, and digital collectibles Superplastic to unveil SuperGucci, a three-part drop including NFTs and ceramic artworks.
SUPERGUCCI is a bespoke three part series. It will be the first NFT project of Gucci Vault. The NFT is co-designed by Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s appointed creative director, together with Superplastic’s synthetic artists Janky & Guggimon. Each NFT will be given away with a ceramic sculpture handmade in Italy.
Each NFT incorporates classic Gucci patterns, and comes with an exclusive 8-inch tall white ceramic SUPERGUCCI SuperJanky sculpture, hand-crafted by Gucci’s own ceramicists in Italy, limited to 250 pieces.
Superplastic is the world’s top creator of animated celebs, vinyl toys, digital collectibles or NFTs through the Winklevoss-owned Nifty Gateway. The company launched in 2018 by Kidrobot founder Paul Budnitz and has sold millions of dollars in designer toys and apparel based on characters Janky & Guggimon, Dayzee & Staxx, Kranky, ShüDog.
Its current investors range from Craft Ventures, GV and Betaworks, to Galaxy Digital, Jared Leto, Scott Belsky and Justin Timberlake.
Digital Gucci bag sold for ~US$4,000
Also, last August 2021, a digital version of Gucci’s “Dionysus” bag was sold on Roblox higher than it’s original “physical” price by 20%. The digital version of the bag was sold for about US$4,115 in comparison to it’s in-store retail price US$3,400.
Reddit co-founder and VC investor Alexis Ohanian points out, “Remember: this Roblox purse is not an NFT and thus has no value/use/transferability outside the Roblox world – yet it’s worth more than the physical one.”
